Direct deposit is the fast, easy and secure way to have your checks or paychecks from the state of Texas posted directly to your bank account without the hassle of paper checks or waiting in line at the bank.

Who can use direct deposit?

Anyone who receives a payment (called a "warrant") from the state of Texas and wants to process it in the fastest, easiest and most secure way possible can participate, including:

• taxpayers with refunds
• state vendors providing goods and services to the state
• state employees; and
• others receiving any payment from any Texas state agency

How long does it take for direct deposit to take effect?
It's fast: only 14 calendar days between the time the Comptroller's office receives the direct deposit instructions and when the direct deposit takes effect. During this time, the bank runs a pre-note test that sends a $0.00 test payment to your bank account to ensure the bank account information is correct.
 

The APN is sent one business day before the payment is posted to a bank account.

How do I obtain payment information?
You can obtain payment information through Advance Payment Notifications (APNs) or by calling our State-to-Vendor Payment Information Fax Line that provides information on non-confidential payments issued within the past 10, 20 or 30 days. Instructions for requesting a fax report can be heard in English or Spanish seven days a week, 24 hours a day by dialing (877) 570-0844 Toll Free

What if I receive some of my payments by direct deposit but continue to receive some payments via paper?
Please contact us at (512) 936-8138. Some vendors choose to receive payments by direct deposit and by paper, but we will need to discuss this with you over the phone to be sure you receive your payments the correct way.

Why does the state refer to its checks as warrants?
A state issued check is called a warrant because the funds are guaranteed. A warrant becomes void August 31 of the second fiscal year following the fiscal year in which it was issued. Example: A warrant issued October 12, 2007 (fiscal 2008) will become void August 31, 2010.
