BPA State Leadership Conference, Fort Worth
Business Professionals of America (BPA), Texas Association is having their State Leadership Conference in Fort Worth, March 3‑6, 2010.
JUDGES will receive contest guidelines and rating sheet. Complimentary Breakfast or Lunch will be provided.

PROGRAM
Thursday, March 4th /12:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m.
Secondary Administrative Support Research Project Individual Prelims
The judges will receive the student’s project prior to attending the conference for technical scoring. Scores will be emailed prior to the conference to the coordinator for input on the contest rubric and will be added to the student's oral presentation score at the scheduled contest time. The same judges who technically score the projects will also need to judge the oral presentation.
Description: One administrative support topic is selected by National BPA and provided at the beginning of the school year. The student will conduct research on the topic and present findings in a research paper, an oral presentation, and respond to questions from a panel of judges. |

Secondary Digital Media Production Prelims
Description: The student will create a one to two minute digital media production based upon an assigned topic.
Secondary Entrepreneurship Prelims
The judges will receive the student’s project prior to attending the conference for technical scoring. Scores will be emailed prior to the conference to the coordinator for input on the contest rubric and will be added to the student's oral presentation score at the scheduled contest time. The same judges who technically score the projects will also need to judge the oral presentation.
Description: the student will develop an operating plan and organizational structure to initiate a small business. Competitors are to assume they are presenting their business plan to potential investors at a bank with the objective of securing financing for their business venture.
Secondary Graphic Design Promotion Prelims
The judges will receive the student’s project prior to attending the conference for technical scoring. Scores will be emailed prior to the conference to the coordinator for input on the contest rubric and will be added to the student's oral presentation score at the scheduled contest time. The same judges who technically score the projects will also need to judge the oral presentation.
Description: the student will develop a theme, illustrate the theme in a logo design, then utilize the logo in a promotional flyer.
Secondary Interview Skills Prelims
The judges will receive the student’s project prior to attending the conference for technical scoring. Scores will be emailed prior to the conference to the coordinator for input on the contest rubric and will be added to the student's oral presentation score at the scheduled contest time. The same judges who technically score the projects will also need to judge the oral presentation.
Description: the student will assess proficiency in job search and interview situations.
Secondary Extemporaneous Speech Prelims
Description: the student will demonstrate communication skills in arranging, organizing, and effectively presenting information orally without prior knowledge of the topic.
Secondary Human Resource Management Prelims
Description: the student will assess interpretation of personnel policies and knowledge of human resource management.
Secondary Prepared Speech Prelims
Description: the student will demonstrate communication skills in securing, arranging, organizing, and presenting an informative speech.
Secondary Presentation Management Individual Prelims
Fort Worth Convention Center
Description: the student will assess the use of current desktop technologies and software to prepare and deliver an effective multimedia presentation to the judges based on a specific topic.
Friday, March 5th /1:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.
Secondary Small Business Management Team Prelims
Description: The team will use strategic planning and problem‑solving skills to provide solutions to the business case provided. The team will deliver their conclusions to the judges.
Secondary Small Business Management Team Finals
Description: The team will use strategic planning and problem‑solving skills to provide solutions to the business case provided. The team will deliver their conclusions to the judges.
Saturday, March 6th /7:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m.
Secondary Financial Analyst Team Finals
Description: the teams will use analytical and problem‑solving skills to make decisions and recommendations using financial reports, both internal and external. The team analyzes and interprets computer reports from a business case study. The team will present their report to the judges.
Secondary Software Engineering Team Finals
Description: the team will work together as a software engineering team to develop a system of applications that will share data and functions and/or procedures from an assigned topic.
Secondary Parliamentary Procedure Team Finals:
Description: the team will demonstrate the use of correct parliamentary procedure through a chairman’s ability to conduct a business meeting in a democratic manner that allows the members of the team to effectively participate. The team’s knowledge of parliamentary procedure will be examined through oral questions and an objective test.
Saturday, March 6th /1:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m.

BPA is a middle level, high school, and college student organization for those interested in the field of business. Through national affiliation, Business Professionals of America, Texas Association contributes to the preparation of a world‑class workforce through the advancement of leadership, citizenship, academic, and technological skills. Approximately 2,500 students will be competing at the state level in order to qualify for the national leadership conference in Anaheim, CA in May 2010. Approximately 250 judges are needed for the following judged events – these contests could not take place without the volunteer efforts of the community.
