The Bayou City Art Festivals, Houston nationally ranked festival, is set for October 10-11. This festival transforms the heart of Houston's business center into a one-of-a-kind urban outdoor art gallery. Over the past 37 years, the Art Colony Association, producer of Bayou City Art Festival Downtown in the fall and Bayou City Art Festival Memorial Park in spring, raising than $2.5 million for local nonprofit organizations.

This year over 850 artists submit their “Zapplication” on line for the 300 artist space available. The winners artists represented 19 media formats, including clay (decorative and functional), digital (not photography), drawing/pastel, fiber/textiles, furniture (functional), glass, jewelry, leather, metal, mixed media 2-D, mixed media 3-D, painting (acrylic or oil), painting (watercolor), photography (digital or computer manipulated), photography (traditional), printmaking (intaglio, relief and planographic), sculpture (3-D media), and wood.

The centerpiece of the event is "Art on Water," the city's only juried floating art exhibit, which takes place in and on the City Hall Reflection Pool. "Art on Water" will feature 10 to 15 original art works—floating, kinetic or stationary (anchored).
Forty per cent of the exhibitors (127 artists) will be new to the Festival, and seventy six per cent (240 artists) are coming from out of state and Canada.
The event will include local artist demonstration. New this fall will be the Epicurean Adventure with wine tastings and professional chefs’ cooking demonstrations. |
Awards:
Earlier this year the Festivals received the ranking of #3 art festivals in the country by the readers of AmericanStyle magazine. In 2008 the Festivals earned several International Festival & Events Association (IFEA) Gold and Silver Pinnacle Awards.
Competing against other festivals held in Texas with similar budgets, the Bayou City Art Festivals (BCAF) was honored with eight awards, as follows:
