The new economic scenario brings lots of risks and challenges’, watching the Super Bowl was quite inspirational. We would like to share with you some perspectives and lessons learned.

I. Try to capitalize on every opportunity: James Harrison took advantage of being in the right place at the right time which resulted in the longest play in Super Bowl history of over 100 yards. In a strong economy you don’t need to be a genius to capitalize. However in today’s risky economy you have to fish the opportunities and execute the best plays of your life
II. Team Work always pays off: As always both teams displayed tremendous Team Work, do the same in your business. Some Key Players: Santonio Holmes: 9 catches on the evening, James Harrison the longest play in Super Bowl history; Larry Fitzgerald (Arizona Cardinals) and so on. Are you a “key Player” in your company? Does your team have heavy weights, “Key Players”? |

III. “What the heck do we have to do…?” For sure during the first half of the game the Cardinals were asking themselves what they needed to do to minimize mistakes and regain momentum. They regrouped at half time and came out quite together in the second half retaking the momentum which led to the scoring putting them 3 points ahead with less than 3 minutes left in the game. At that precise moment Pittsburg probably asked themselves the same question and decided on a course of action which led to the game winning touchdown that left 35 second on the clock. Momentum can change back and forth, the objective of the exercise is to keep the momentum on your side, by the elimination of mistakes, utilizing time to your benefit and keeping the adrenaline flowing.
IV. The fans were quite happy with a very exiting game, one of the best in the history of the Super Bowl, and of course did not mind at all the cost of their seats. Your business performance could have the same effect on your clients, deliver what they want. |

V. Nothing is impossible! It seemed unlikely that the Cardinals, due to the first half performance and stats, would come back the second half as they did. With renewed strategy they regained the momentum and were able to lead Pittsburg late in the fourth quarter. It doesn’t matter how bleak it looks there is always something you can do to turn things around in your favor.
VI. “Flipping Burger or playing football” Someone asked James Harrison what he would be doing if he didn’t have the opportunity to play and he said that probably he would be flipping hamburgers. He would probably be the best “hamburger flipper.” He also said the last few yards were the hardest in that historic run for a touchdown. The last stretch is always the hardest with any project, be the best at what you do, it will always pay off.
VII. “It’s now or never”; Commented one of the players when interviewed. The message is “don’t give up” it is very important to have faith in your company and your team. No matter how “closed” the scenario seems to be there is always an opportunity.
VIII. The ability to “come from behind”: in spite of all the errors and penalties the Cardinals came from behind to lead late in the fourth quarter. And likewise Pittsburg came from behind with less than 3 minutes left in the game to win with perfect execution. In tough economic times you also can come from behind by utilizing time in your favor and with perfect execution in your business dealings resulting in a victory.
IX. So close, play hard win or loose: No matter the score both teams played hard and to win. Do exactly the same with your business “play to win”.
In the aftermath of the game there is many lesson learned. These are just a few reflections to consider in the day to day battles of business. Remember there is a very fine line between the “Thrill of victory and the agony of defeat”.
